Hi Yutaka and design team!

I tried to connect to Terminal server via SSH2 and got the following error. SecureCRT connects without an issue and shows "ssh2: AES-256-CTR" in the status bar. I have AES256-CTR enabled in my ciphers' list. It is the second from the top after "Camellia256-CTR(SSH2)".

I am attaching TTSSH log. Hopefully it will help to find that cause.

Hi Boris,

Thank you for your feedback.
Please retrieve the SSH log and post it to this article.

Step1. Change the LogLevel from 0 to 200 in the teraterm.ini file.
Step2. Try to connect to your server.
Step3. The TTSSH.LOG will be created.

Thanks.

Hi Yutaka,

I've done all that. The log is attached to my 1st post. File name is ssh2connect.log (see below the image). If you cannot see the link, please try to log out and then log in again to your account and check again.
Thanks.
Best regards,
Boris

Hi Boris,

I want to check three files(ssh2connect.log, TTSSH.LOG and ssh2packet.log), however
it seems that one file is attached in your post.
Please confirm your attachment.

Thanks.

Hello Yutaka,

I emptied all 3 log files and did the test. After entering username and password connection failed as described in my 1-st post. I am attaching TTSSH.LOG and ssh2connect.log files. Nothing was written into ssh2packet.log file, that's why I am not uploading it.

Hi Boris,

Thank you for your logging. However, I do not know the reason of
connection error in spite of investigation. Some idea must need to
proceed your problem.

So, I have a question and suggestion.

Question:
What is Terminal server?
It seems that the server is OpenSSH 6.7 on Cygwin because I check below TTSSH.LOG.

Tue Feb 16 14:11:38.516 2016 [4056] Received server identification string: SSH-1.99-OpenSSH_6.7

Suggestion:
Please retrieve the connection log by using ssh command. An example of command line
is shown below.

# ssh -vvv [Terminal server IP address]

Thanks.

Hi Yutaka,

By "Terminal Server" I refer to Lantronix Console Manager SLC48. Here is its user guide: http://www.lantronix.com/wp-content/upl ... SLC_UG.pdf

As for getting log with -vvv - it is not that easy, because I VPN to another network from my PC to connect to this server. The best I could get is extract from syslog from Ubuntu running on VMWare on my PC. I used command ssh -vvv -y [Terminal server IP address] to generate this log. In the attached file I replaced actual addresses with dummy IPs. Hopefully this helps.

Hi Boris,

Thank you for your feedback. I have checked new log, and then Ubuntu uses HMAC SHA1
algorithm to connect to the remote host. However, Tera Term fails to connect by using
HMAC SHA2 algorithm. So, I do not know why SecureCRT is successful to connection
because no detail log exists.

I have a suggestion. Please try to connect to your Terminal server while changing
top of order regarding HMAC algorithms in the MAC order of TTSSH setup dialog.

Top of order Case 1:
"hmac-sha1"

Top of order Case 2:
"hmac-ripemd160@openssh.com"

Top of order Case 3:
"hmac-md5"

Hi Boris,

Thank you for your logging. I have check your log.
It seems that Tera Term do not have a bug but Console Manager's firmware has a bug.
If the firmware version is old, please update the firmware and try to connect your
Terminal server by using Tera Term.

Thanks.

Thanks Yutaka for looking into this issue. I do not manage that Terminal Server and cannot upgrade it.
Your workaround is working fine and I don't need to switch to SecureCRT, or Putty anymore to connect to this device. That's good enough for me.
Thanks.
Best regards,
Boris
